Il lino secondo Archivio Tessile

Linen according to Archivio Tessile

Linen is one of the fabrics most closely associated with the summer season, but not all linen shirts are the same. Behind the choice of a garment there are details that often become clear only after wearing it: the hand of the fabric, the fit, the breathability and the way it sits on the body.

We asked the person who curates the Archivio Tessile selection a few questions, to understand why linen remains one of the most suitable choices for summer and what to look for when choosing this type of shirt.

Why is linen so suitable for summer?
Linen is particularly suited to warm weather because its weave encourages air circulation. This allows the garment to feel fresher and drier on the skin, especially during summer days.
A good linen shirt should never feel as if it is “sticking” to the body, but should follow movement with lightness and natural ease.

What should you look for in a well-made linen shirt?
One of the most important aspects is the fabric. Linen, being a natural fibre, may show small knots and slubs: these are normal characteristics and part of its identity.
The key is balance. A slight irregularity makes the fabric feel alive and recognisable; too many discontinuities, however, can make the garment appear less refined. This is where selection becomes important: a linen shirt should preserve the natural character of the fabric without feeling excessively rough.

How should linen feel to the touch and once worn?
Good linen should feel fresh to the touch, dry and never sticky. Once worn, it should give a constant feeling of lightness.
This is perhaps its most important quality: it should not only look
good, but remain pleasant to wear even after several hours.

Why did Archivio Tessile select these shirts?
We selected them for their balance of quality, price and fit. The 100% linen composition was an important factor, especially compared with more inexpensive shirts that often use blended fibres.
Beyond the fabric, we also considered how the garment performs once worn: a linen shirt should be light, but not without structure; comfortable, but still elegant.

How can a linen shirt be worn?
It is a garment designed mainly for casual and informal settings. It can be worn outside the trousers, with the collar slightly open and the sleeves rolled up, for a relaxed but refined look.
At the same time, it can also work in more polished contexts: tucked into the trousers and paired with an unstructured jacket, it can become a good choice for business casual occasions or for a summer evening.
The only limit is the context: it is better to avoid wearing it in very formal situations or during the colder months, when other fabrics are more appropriate.

A shirt that looks good is not always a shirt that wears well
A linen shirt can immediately stand out for its colour or image, but the real difference becomes clear once it is worn. The quality of the fabric, the hand of the garment and the fit are the elements that determine whether a shirt will remain pleasant in everyday use.

The Archivio Tessile summer selection is built around this idea: offering light, natural and versatile pieces, chosen not only for how they look, but for the way they live on the body.
